PRESENTATION OF HOLDING BATERIA
The company Battery Plc. was founded in 1961. It is situated 250 km far from the capital of Bulgaria. The enterprise is positioned on the banks of the Danube river, the northern water border between Bulgaria and Romania.

    The factory occupies an area of about 20 000 m2 and is located in the center of the town of Nikopol.The entire factory complex consist of the workshops for manufacturing, warehouse, hotel complex with restaurant and guest rooms for the training of employees, associates and distributors. Every product manufactured by us is consistent with environmental requirements and does not pollute the environment. In the factory work excellent specialists: chemists, technicians and professionals from other fields of science and technology. Developments are made both in our own laboratory and other scientific bodies such as Bulgarian Academy of Science, Technical University - Sofia and Sofia University. We continuously implement the latest advances in the field of chemistry.

    Our commercial structure covers the entire country, we have 12 offices in all major regions besides the head office in Sofia.We deliver the goods on site.

    We have over 8 000 costumers in the country – stores, supermarkets, hospitals, institutions like Railways, Defense Ministry, Ministry of internal affairs, etc. MAX POWER batteries have 25% market share in Bulgaria.

    Our products are exported to Germany, Nitherlands, Czech Republic, Romania, Greece, United Arab Emirates, United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, FYR Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Armenia and other countries.

    We produce branded formulations for our customers in domestic market and abroad . We are able to rapidly produce new products at the request of the costumer.

    Since 2015 we have developed program aiming to adopt new advanced technologies to produce new generation LiPO4 and Ni-Zn accumulators designed for industrial needs. They have been used in different branches of economy such as:

  • Electric cars, motorcycles, trucks, busses and trains.
  • For storage of already produced energy:
    • by power stations during the night time;
    • by PV;
    • by wind generators etc. and with following sale to cover arisen needs in peak periods of day and night.
  • As a part of set of different resources of power supply to cover needs of people in hard to be reached places where no power supply is.
  • For the needs of every modern house – set of PV equipment, this loads the batteries in the basement.
  • For the islands, oases in the desert, military objects and oil wells, where power supply is delivered by diesel generators.
  • For telecommunication and base stations of GSM installations.
  • For the needs of rail roads.
  • For shipping needs.
  • Others.

    Meanwhile we have developed a whole system for power supply of the objects with the start of Li and Ni-Zn accumulators’ production.

    Uninterrupted power supply for objects with consumption of 50 kW up to 10 MW has been developed and in process of installation recently under the guidance of BALKAN Gold Star Ltd. and together with Bulgarian companies Electroinvent Ltd., GEO Power Ltd. and Stimar1 Ltd. The objects might be out of way from a grid and in this case the system is named OFF grid. When the object is secured with regular power supply too then the system is named ON grid.

    The system we offer work with different output voltages as per the client’s requirements:

  • DC – direct current – 12 to 1200 V;
  • AC – alternative current – 12 to 20 000 V.

    The system is in full compliance with the standards in Europe, England, Africa and Asia and the frequency is 50 Hz, for USA and other countries – 60 Hz.

    In order the system to fulfill the requirements of the object, depending on its destination - house , hotel, hospital, plant, island or far away in the desert it is needed a team of specialists to analyze energy needs to be covered and to define what should be done to secure 24 to 120 hours uninterrupted power supply.

    The result of analysis is a base on which a specification to the investor has been made and it includes:

  • Number of days uninterrupted power supply should work without problems – up to 5 days;
  • What kind of accumulators will be needed – LI or Ni-Zn?
  • Should it be provided diesel-generator as a backup power supply?
  • In case of available possibility should a wind generator or PV to be installed?
  • In case there is river closeness is it possible to use the water for HPP to be built?

    After all these and other questions from the list have been answered by the investor it is needed one more answer – what origin the equipment should be?

    On the base of answered questions as shown above an offer is made and according to the size of the object the need of advanced payment is defined.

    The company BALKAN Gold Star Ltd. offers complete engineering of the object:

  • Complete design of the equipment;
  • Delivery and installation;
  • Guarantee and after guarantee period maintenance.

    We are able to provide you with energetic equipment as follows:

  • uninterrupted power supply /UPS/ with capacity up to 10 MW for different objects;
  • PV systems;
  • Wind generators and HPP;
  • In cooperation with leading companies as AES, Siemens, ABB etc. we are able to deliver and to install big power plants working with different kinds of fuel;
  • Our engineers have designed, delivered and installed grids and substations in Africa, Asia and Russia.

    The capacity of our two lines is approximately 500 MWh per year. And just to compare the needs of Russian market are 1500 MWh annually. For our new product we have already clients from Europe, Africa and Middle East.

Project

Investment Project
For the development of a new production line

 

The factory Bateria Plc is established in 1962 with the purpose of battery production. At first the factory was equipped with the English production lines Vidor. In 1984 new production buildings were built, equipped with the same technology as Varta at that time. That gave the factory a production capacity of 50 million batteries per year, working with one regular shift.

The factory is situated in Nikopol, Bulgaria, over 3 areas:

1.  Production – situated in the center of the city, covering an area of 10500 m2 and build area of 7800m2.
2.  Warehouse – situated 300m from the production area. Both places are situated on the Danube river bank with easy access to the Nikopol – Turnumagulere ferry. The covering area is 6800m2, from which 2900m2 are build.
3.  Hotel – situated over a 1500m2 on the highest viewpoint of the city. The hotel is 840m2, 3 stories high and has 11 rooms, restaurant, congress room and garages.


Since October 1998 the holding is 99,5% owned by Maxim Minkov and the rest 0.5% are 6 shareholders, which have never shown on any shareholders meeting. Between 2004 and 2010 our new battery brand Max Power had a 25% market share in Bulgarian second only to Toshiba.

Since 2004 we have expanded our production with a wide range of cleaning products. In the moment we are producing over 150 products. From those for 36 we are the only producer in Bulgaria and 6 of them there are just a few producers in Europe.

In the last couple of years six companies approached us for collaboration in production of Lithium batteries and assembly of electric cars. Since the beginning of 2016 we started our own marketing in the field. We researched the most of the production equipment suppliers in Japan, South Korea, China and Italy and we have determined the optimal production line, suited for our market with optimal cost.

We also started and currently engaging in negotiations with customers, which are manufacturers of products using the same type of batteries that we have decided to produce.

Our research shows that there will be a massive increase in demand for the Lithium batteries in the following sectors:

1. Energy Saving Systems (ESS)

*  Photovoltaic systems – large and small.
*  Wind generators.
*  Power Plants – large battery stations, charging at night for usage in the peak hours.
*  Consumers, who are far away from the electricity distribution network, for whom the build of one is not economical.
*  Upgrading the street lightning with photo elements and batteries.
*  Few Bulgarian Academy of Science project, aimed at refining the hydrogen sulphide from the depths of Black and Caspian Sea.

2. Electric and Hybrid Vehicles

Almost all electric and hybrid cars use Lithium batteries, which after between 2000 and 3000 cycles or about 5 years, need to be replaced. Hybrid and electric cars have been on the market for 10 years now and still there numbers are not that high, but now most car manufacturers are starting to produce them and we expect in the next 10 years there numbers to skyrocket, also the one that are already on the market will need replacements. There are also many small companies that convert cars from internal combustion engine to a battery powered one.

After researching we have decided to produce only square (pouch) Lithium-Ion batteries with capacity of 20, 30 and 50 Ah. With our proposed equipment we will be able to produce 50MWh annually, or about 1000 batteries daily. If the demand increases we can upgrade the equipment to produce 3GWh annually.

The proposed equipment will cost approximately $15 million and if we get the investment now, we could start production within 7 months. Just for information Daimler-Benz is investing 1 billion euro and CALB is investing $1.9 billion for production of the same type of batteries.

The factory’s production area is spread over 10500m2 and we don’t need any permits to expand our production. The buildings however are very old and will need refurbishment before the installation in accordance with the requirements of the equipment needed. Currently we are negotiating with leading Bulgarian companies for air conditioning and as soon as we get the prices, we can then calculate exactly how much the investment sum will be, but roughly it should be about 26 million euro. After having made our evaluation we are confident all the investments in the project are for sure to be retrieved within 3 years after the date the production process starts.
